Cold radiators or cold spots
Cold patches on an otherwise warm radiator, or a radiator that's cold at the bottom and warm at the top, can indicate sludge or debris restricting circulation inside it, which stops heat from reaching every part of the radiator evenly and reduces overall room warmth.
Noisy boiler or banging pipes
Banging, gurgling or knocking noises coming from your boiler or pipes may point to restricted flow caused by a build-up of sludge and debris, and left unchecked this can put extra strain on your system, so it's worth having it investigated properly rather than ignored.
Slow to heat up
If your radiators are taking noticeably longer to warm up than they used to, built-up debris inside the system is often the cause, slowing circulation and reducing overall efficiency, which can also mean your boiler is working harder than it needs to just to heat your home.
Frequent breakdowns
Sludge and debris place extra strain on your boiler and circulating pump, forcing them to work harder than they should, which increases the risk of faults and breakdowns over time and can shorten the working life of components that would otherwise last for years.
